The same thing happened to Shonnie at one point. But instead of turning into something horrible and nasty. Something horrible and nasty came out of him. In the form of "Nega-Shonnie". :(
Annaliese and Ashuro share the same experiences. After escaping from Lorenzo and suffering the towns people's unrelenting assaults, he nearly became a monster that would've killed everybody in that entire town; had that happened, there would've been no turning back for him and he would've remained that way.
